Context

  • Payments initially launched with an offer flow where buyers manually typed in the amount of money they were offering to pay including shipping costs

  • Diverse palette of items being available on Kleinanzeigen means different shipping options in terms of size, insurance and carriers → Buyers couldn‘t anticipate the shipping option that would most likely make sense to the seller

  • Negotiations with carriers to integrate shipping solutions needed time

Task

  • Make the payment experience more convenient by integrating shipping into the flow reducing effort for buyers and sellers

  • Identify ways to improve convenience even before carrier negotiations finished

Actions

Introduced a lightweight shipping integration by allowing sellers to add a manual shipping cost to their ads that would be calculated into the offer flow → Sellers now had better control over shipping costs while buyers could anticipate shipping costs and focus on their offers

Next Steps

Integrated carrier APIs to offer a fully built-in shipping functionality including automatic label creation.

  • Sellers could choose different carriers as well as package sizes and insurance coverage while posting an ad

  • Buyers could pick between these predefined options when making an offer

  • Shipping labels were created automatically when the payment went through, including tracking options inside of the Kleinanzeigen apps
